Raffaele Romano, from the Fratelli Romano pastry shop in Solofra (AV), is the winner, among high-level creations among the best Italian artisans, of the final of the national Panettone Day 2018 competition.
Romano is the winner in the category "best traditional panettone", while Piero Bertoli of the Bertoli Pastry shop in Varallo (VC) with his variation of the panettone based on candied peaches, dark chocolate and amaretti is the winner as "best creative panettone".
The Milanese dessert, a sweet icon of Christmas, has been in Italian gastronomic culture for decades, and in fact the 25 artisan panettone that Iginio Massari has chosen as the best interpretations, selected from over 130 pastry chefs participating in the competition, from the classic version arrived from all over Italy. based on raisins and candied oranges, to the tasty variation based on chocolate and pistachio up to the daring licorice-saffron combo.
